Microinjection
Microinjection, also known as intra cytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI), can be added to conventional IVF if needed. With ICSI single sperm is directly injected into the each egg. ICSI is used when the quality or quantity of sperm is significantly reduced, or when there have been previous fertilization failures.
ICSI can also involve the use of sperm retrieved from the epididymis or testes. Even a very small number of sperm can be sufficient for fertilization. If a person’s own sperm is not available through any method, treatment can be carried out using donated sperm.
